Hey, Iām David š
Iām a bit of an āold manā in internet years. I started a tech blog in 1998 as a college hobby and grew it into a six-figure business. In 2008, I founded the Blog Marketing Academy to teach other people how to do the same, and spent years building courses and working with thousands of students.
Through all of that, one thing kept coming up. My students could grasp the strategy all day longā¦ then WordPress ate them alive. I resisted being āthe tech guyā for a long time. Frankly, I was tired of talking about tech. š¤Ŗ Around 2021, I stopped resisting and started building the stuff for them.
Today, thatās the core of what I do. Through Concierge, I host and look after my clientsā WordPress sites and act as their go-to web guy. The training is still hereā¦ the blog, the newsletter, the videosā¦ but I no longer make my living selling courses.
I believe in keeping business human, in being transparent and staying personal. I live in sunny Tampa Bay, Florida with my family. I love camping and traveling in our RV (Iām a bit of an RV nerd), and Iām most at home in shorts and sandals, sitting in a folding chair at a campsite, smoking the occasional cigar.
My Core Principles
These are the core principles that guide how I run my own businessā¦ and how I advise my clients.
Integrity is everything.
I believe in a business standing for the values of its owner. Stand for what you think is right in all business decisions. The golden rule applies to business, too.
Power lies in simplicity.
I believe complexity is a symptom of a system breakdown. When things have gotten overly complicated, it is best to re-evaluate your assumptions.
Be an owner, not a renter.
I believe in building an online business platform which is ādigitally sovereignā, and not dependent on a host of rented software or ābig techā.
Make business personal again.
People do business with people they feel like they know, like and trust. Not big, anonymous corporate blobs. And certainly not AI bots.
